Travelling from Tallinn, one of the first landmarks is Vasalemma Manor, an impressive Neo-Gothic building that today works as a school. Prisoners worked in the nearby limestone quarry, where industrial mining continued for decades, leaving behind a striking artificial hill. Today, the flooded quarry, with its crystal-clear turquoise water, is one of Harju County’s most remarkable landscapes and a favourite destination for divers because you can discover buildings and trees underwater. Open throughout the year, the quarry offers hiking trails around the lake and over the limestone hills, while the warmer months invite visitors to enjoy paddleboarding, kayaking, swimming, and other water activities.
